To celebrate the opening of Metro Line 3 in Xiamen in East China's Fujian province at the end of June, Xiamen Metro recently unveiled two imaginative new trains with especially designed city themes: the Happy Xiamen and the Ocean City.
The interior designs of their metro cars incorporate elements of the city and the ocean, such as sail-shaped seats and doorway windshields decorated with the images of egrets, showcasing some of the many dynamic images of the coastal city.
Each of the six carriages of the Happy Xiamen represents a Xiamen district. Creative images of Gulangyu Island, Wuyuan Bay, Tan Kah Kee Memorial Museum, Tianzhu Mountain, Beichen Mountain, Xiangshan Hill and other scenic spots are printed on the interior car ceilings and on the light belts on both sides.
Glancing up in the car is reminiscent of taking a walk in some of the best places the city has to offer. Passengers can have a quick view of the local landscapes and a glance at the charms of Xiamen during their trip.
The interior car ceiling of Ocean City employs special lighting to portray marine motifs – including Chinese white dolphins, sea turtles, egrets, as well as waves. The color of the ventilation grating is ocean blue, which matches with the lighting.
To travel in these cars is almost like being immersed beneath the waves.
The Xiamen Metro Line 3 – the Xiamen Railway Station-Caicuo Station section – passed its final assessment and acceptance on May 18. With a total length of 26.4 kilometers and 21 stations, the section connects Xiamen Island with Xiang'an district.
